Alice in Wonderland 'All in the Golden Afternoon'

Lydia and Freddie pointed out this scene from Alice in Wonderland featuring a garden of all sorts of flowers. You can really figure out their personalities from their shape, posture, colour and so this will really help me develop my own giddy plant.

Video Influences: Giddy females

While on my digging for giddy females I found a lot of videos of their giddiness at work. I even remembered Dory from Finding Nemo who is completely different in the sense that she is a fish not a human but she is still just as giddy and ditsy!

The character Brooke Davis is probably the most playful, dizzy and silly character in One Tree Hill.



Bevin would however be the sterotypical dumb blonde in One Tree Hill.

Serena Van Der Woodsen from Gossip Girl can also be a bit ditsy at times as well as Blair Waldorf.

Dory from Finding Nemo, especially her attempt at Whale!

Marilyn Monroe's ditsy characters such as the one below are impulsive, such as she doesn't think to phone before trying to climb out the window.

In her video California Gurls Katy Perry acts like a dreamer and is whimsical, she also does silly things.

A friend of mine also mentioned Stacey Solomon to me... I can see why!

Examples of 'Giddy' females

I have been looking for examples of giddy to help me identify key performances of a giddy person that can be applied to my pot plant. It already seems appropriate that my pot plant should be female so I have gone ahead and looked for female examples of this giddy/dizzy behaviour.

From my words that linked back to giddy I really liked in particular dreamer and whimsical and there seems a certain pose that giddy females do which embodies this. Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe, the One Tree Hill character Brooke Davis and Katy Perry were just some examples of giddy personalities that I found.



Delving into giddiness

After a really helpful talk with Phil including a chat about my pot plant's giddiness I have decided to go in the direction of giddiness as in the stereotypical ditsy blonde personality rather than the behaviour of becoming dizzy/uncoordinated due to whizzing around or something similar. There just seems like there is more of a story to tell about a ditsy pot plant.

I started by looking up lots of words that relate to giddy, I've now got a great list which should give me some headway into thinking about my character and storyline.



Unit 5 Life Drawing: Week 1

For this week's life drawing we focused on behaviour/mood of the model using some of the behaviours we had got at the briefing. It was really helpful and interesting trying to express these moods in our drawings and it really got me concentrating on the mood more rather than the figure proportions.

2 minute warm up poses.

3 12 minute behaviour poses where I experimented with exaggerated brushstrokes and lots of marks, square shape to get the mood across.

This one was the hardest to get across because I happened to be behind the model and the mood that she was portraying is better seen from the front but I think I managed to capture it quite well.



Unit 5: More research

I'm trying to decide which definition of giddy I want to go for... the dizzy, sense of falling and vertigo or the silly, scatterbrain, light-headed form of giddy.
Thinking of the dizzy type of giddy it came to the question would my potted plant make things feel giddy or would it itself be made giddy. I don't know why just yet but I had this image of this potted plant sitting on a typical windowsill and gusts of wind blowing it making it seem dizzy and then doing something drastic to escape from the windowsill like uprooting itself and bounding along without its pot.

With the other type of giddy in mind I was reminded of those annoying flower toys that dance to songs. (I managed to find one without a song playing over it to spare you ripping your head off)

Perhaps my potted plant is bored of the same environment when something out of the ordinary arrives...something that makes music and it becomes all giddy from it.

I also found this nice little animation which really helps in seeing how the parts of the potted plant become personified to the human body.

Unit 5: Initial Research

I thought it best off to start by researching into pot plants as I already know that there are a lot of plants that are potted and can be classified as this. I ended up searching for 'potted' plant after the plant that appeared in my search definitely wasn't what I am meant to be drawing!
I especially like the long thin leafed plants, I can see something crazy or 'giddy' being done with them, I also think they have the characteristics of limbs. I do however, also like the flower in the pot because the flower head could be seen as the face, the stem as the body and the pot as the feet. This is definitely something I'm going to have to consider with relation to the giddy characteristic, in how can I use the potted plant appearance to my advantage.

I have also looked up the different definitions of giddy to help me decipher it properly and see which meaning I can be more creative with.

-Having a reeling, lightheaded sensation; dizzy.

-Causing or capable of causing dizziness.

-Frivolous and lighthearted; flighty.

-sensation of whirling and a tendency to fall.

-impulsive; scatterbrained

-lacking seriousness; given to frivolity; "a dizzy blonde"; "light-headed teenagers"; "silly giggles"
